The drive to Blantyre - don't miss the goats picture!

We have made the drive to Blantyre many times and a lot of our pictures on the blog are taken along that road but here are a few that focus more on people and transport than scenery.

Water is everything. Women and girls carry loads like these several times a day for cooking, cleaning, laundry etc.

I have no idea how many people are on there!

Three modes of transport.

This is not a family on vacation. It's one of thousands of minibuses that are the backbone of transport in this country (and much of the world). They are always jammed with people and as much stuff as they can cram in and on.

Part of the clothing section at one of the major markets along the way. Everything seems to be in sections...all the tomatoes, all the baskets, all the charcoal, all the clothing, all the blankets etc. Dozens of little vendors all selling the same stuff. Seems strange to me but that's how things are. At the end of every day everything disappears. In the evening all there is left are the poles and sticks. Then in the morning (if it's market day) it all reappears.

How many ox carts can you count in this picture? I think there are twelve (and many more just out of the frame).

WHAT THE DICKENS???? We saw this truck and had to slam on the brakes and take a picture. So many questions! How did they get up there. Where are they going? How are they going to stay there? Where did they come from? .....

I'm pretty sure this load is in trouble!
